Deep within the dense jungles and coastal reaches of the island once known as the "Land of the Birds of Paradise," the warriors of Papua (Irian) forged weapons from the very essence of nature. This package brings that primal strength to life through a comprehensive collection of 16 traditional spears, meticulously modeled to reflect the diverse tribal cultures of the region.
Echoes from the Nagarakretagama:
According to the Nagarakretagama (Desawarnana), the 14th-century, the influence of the Majapahit Empire under Emperor Hayam Wuruk extended to the far east. The text identifies regions such as Wwanin (Onin/Fakfak) and Seran (Kowiai) as part of the empire's vast tributary network.
When the Majapahit explorers and envoys reached these shores, they encountered warriors armed with these very weapons—serrated harpoons and bone-tipped lances that defended the sacred "Land of the Birds of Paradise."
These spears represent the formidable defensive tools of the local tribes who guarded these easternmost gateways of the Majapahit maritime influence. These were the weapons encountered by the imperial fleet as they sought the rare resources of the "Golden Island" under the Sumpah Palapa.
